Mangal is the Middle Easten name for Barbecue. It is an extremely common recreational activity, especially during specific holidays and the summer months. In order to make sure your barbecue event goes smoothly and properly, here are a couple of conventions, etiquette and courtesies:

*“Barbecue (also barbeque, BBQ and barbie) is a cooking method and apparatus. In the United States, to grill is to cook meat relatively quickly using the direct heat imparted by a charcoal or propane fire, while barbecue is similar to baking and is a much slower method utilizing the indirect heat imparted by the smoke of a wood-fueled fire, often requiring an extended period of several hours.” - Wikipedia

In order to make sure your your Barbecue event goes smoothly and properly, here are a couple of conventions, etiquette and courtesies  :

  1. Picking a Spot - when picking a spot to hold your barbecue, be considerate of anyone else in the vicinity and make sure to put enough space between you and them in order to retain both of your parties’ privacy. Additionally, take into account wind direction - no one likes getting caught inside a smokey draft.

  2. Playing Ball - when some members of your party inevitably decide to partake in a friendly ballgame, take into account your surroundings and make sure you won’t interfere with other people’s events.

  3. Cleaning Up - make sure to clean up after yourself, during and after the barbecue. Be prepared: bring with you moist and dry paper towels for yourselves and big plastic bags for your trash. In order to facilitate a faster, hassle-free cleanup, consider using disposable plates and cutleries.

  4. A Buzz Kill - nothing ruins the mood more than bug bites. Bring with you bug-repellant spray, or better yet - bug-repellant candles.

  5. A Barbecues a Barbecue - even when held in someone’s house. So, don’t be afraid to use your hands and don’t worry about formal table manners.
